(334) February 1945. After Riva Ridge
Three Tenth Mountain Division soldiers take a break near a stream after the battle for Riva Ridge. One of the three soldiers is identified by the photographer as Shaw. The soldier farthest from the stream is standing near his knapsack on a snowpacked trail. Two others are beside the stream; one is getting water and the other is drinking. Snow covers the ground.

Shows a long line of more than thirty Tenth Mountain Division soldiers waiting for food. The chow-line snakes up a steep street in an Italian town; a few men are eating around a covered jeep. Above the town is a rugged mountain covered with snow; clouds hover over the roofs.

Shows pontoon bridge over the River Po. Two Tenth Mountain Division soldiers drive a jeep loaded with boxes. Four more loaded jeeps drive through a cut in an embankment. Twelve soldiers sit nearby or stand ready to work near the bridge. Italian citizens and more soldiers sit at the top of the cut and watch the passing convoy. Many of the Italians have bicycles with them.

A mule climbs a steep trail carrying a bale of hay. The mule handlers might be Italian Alpini, who assisted the Tenth Mountain Division during the Italian Campaign. Other men climbing the trail are wearing U.S. Army helmets. One man is shirtless but wearing a helmet. A knapsack and rifle appear on the left side of the image against a tree.

Portrait of a Tenth Mountain Division soldier, either the photographer or possibly Shaw, in a fox hole. He is holding a knife with both hands; piles of equipment are arranged on both sides of the foxhole cut steep into the hillside. The equipment pictured includes: a helmet, blankets, clothing, rifles, knapsacks, and a quiver of arrows. The ground cover looks yellow and dry; the leaves on the trees are orange.
